Stars Touch Down At Kasarani Ahead Of Quarter-Final Match
Stars heading to Kasarani Quarter-Final Match

Drawn in Pool A alongside Morocco, DR Congo, Zambia, and Angola, Harambee Stars topped the group after winning three matches and drawing one, conceding only one goal in the process.

They kicked off their CHAN campaign for local-based players on a high, edging DR Congo 1-0 on Sunday, August 3, in the tournament opener.

In their second game against Angola, Marvin Nabwire was sent off in the 21st minute, forcing Benni McCarthy’s side to play with ten men for over 70 minutes. Despite the setback, Austin Odhiambo’s well-taken penalty secured a 1-1 draw, keeping Kenya unbeaten with four points after two games.

The third match against Morocco brought more drama when Chris Erambo was shown a straight red card late in the first half, shortly after Ryan Ogam had put Kenya ahead.

Harambee Stars went on to claim a statement 1-0 victory over the two-time champions on Sunday, August 10, at a packed Kasarani. Ogam’s 42nd-minute strike proved decisive as Kenya ended Morocco’s unbeaten CHAN record and seized control of Group A.

On Sunday, August 17, Kenya cemented their dominance with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Zambia.

In the simultaneous fixture, Morocco defeated DR Congo 3-1, allowing both Kenya and Morocco to progress to the quarterfinals, with the Leopards settling for third place.

Madagascar qualified for the quarter finals as the second-ranked team in group B with seven points behind leaders Tanzania’s Taifa Stars, who garnered 10 points. Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic were eliminated after finishing third, fourth, and fifth with seven, three, and one points respectively.
