A Kenyan governor has been accused of the abduction and torture of a former county health official.
In a statement released Sunday, 15 June, human rights advocate Hussein Khalid claimed that the former Chief Officer for Health in Isiolo, Abdi Rahman Mohamed, was abducted and tortured by a governor from the region.
The activist stated that the incident has been reported at several police stations.
“Despite the abductors being known and all evidence, including CCTV footage shared, no action has been taken,” Khalid said, urging the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to intervene.
The statement accuses local authorities of turning a blind eye to what Khalid described as a clear case of impunity.

“This is not just a local governance issue; it is a national crisis of justice. We demand immediate action by IPOA and DCI Kenya to end impunity in the country,” Khalid said via social media.
Isiolo County Official Abducted
Abdi Rahman Mohamed, the former Chief Officer for Medical Services in Isiolo County, was discovered unconscious in Ruai after reportedly being abducted.
On Saturday, 16 out of 18 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) visited him at a Nairobi hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Some of the MCAs supporting a related motion have expressed fears for their safety, citing concerns raised by the incident involving the former health official, who was later found abandoned and in critical condition in Ruiru.
In a statement released by Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif, the governor confirmed that Abdirahman was found severely injured on the morning of Friday, June 13.

Call for Accountability
He strongly condemned the incident and urged Isiolo County leaders to promote calm and tolerance amid rising political tensions.
“I strongly condemn the abduction of Mr. Abdi Rahman Mohamed, the former Isiolo County Chief Officer for Medical Services,” said the governor. “We urge security agencies to move swiftly with investigations into this and other similar cases. Such unlawful actions are deeply troubling. We continue to pray for Mr. Abdirahman’s full recovery.”
The DCI and IPOA have not publicly acknowledged any ongoing investigations related to the case.
The allegations come amid growing scrutiny of county governments in Kenya, where rights groups have increasingly raised alarm over abuse of power and lack of accountability among public officials.
