The Kenyan community in the United States is mourning the death of Zacchaeus Tallam, also known as Tom, who was reported missing in late April 2026 in Portland before his body was later discovered on May 9, 2026.

According to The Kenyan Diaspora Media, Tallam, 46, was last seen on April 29 in Bethany, a Portland, Oregon, suburb.

His disappearance triggered immediate concern among family members, friends, and the Kenyan diaspora in the United States.

“Tom, who had been reported missing since April 29, 2026, was sadly found deceased on the morning of May 9, 2026. His untimely death has deeply affected family, friends, and the wider Kenyan community in Oregon,” the Diaspora media said in a statement.

Kenyan Diaspora Mobilizes Search Before Authorities Confirm Death of Zacchaeus Tallam in Portland Case

Following his reported disappearance, community members initiated coordinated efforts to trace the whereabouts of Zacchaeus Tallam.

These included public appeals, online awareness campaigns, and prayer gatherings organized across different Kenyan diaspora networks and local community groups.

After several days of uncertainty, authorities confirmed that Tallam’s body had been found. Officials stated that the case is currently under investigation by Washington County Police, who have taken custody of the body as inquiries continue.

Law enforcement authorities have not released detailed information regarding the circumstances surrounding the death of Zacchaeus Tallam.

Police indicated that investigations remain active and ongoing, with further details expected once initial procedures and notifications to next of kin are completed.

Diaspora Community in mourning

Community leaders and organizers within the Kenyan diaspora described Tallam as a warm, humble, and well-respected individual.

His death has been described as a significant loss to those who knew him personally and to the wider community network.

In statements shared within community groups, organizers expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to his family.

Members of the Kenyan community in Oregon and beyond were urged to keep the family in their thoughts and prayers during what was described as a deeply painful period.

“As the community comes together in grief, prayers and support are being extended to his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement read.

Prayer Vigil Planned in Portland to Honor Zacchaeus Tallam

Reportedly, a prayer gathering has been arranged in Portland to honor the memory of Zacchaeus Tallam and support his family. The vigil will be held at 4498 NW Oakpoint Way, where members of the Kenyan community are expected to come together for remembrance and spiritual support.

Community representatives Amos Togoch and Pastor Wekesa have advised those seeking information or wishing to offer assistance to contact family representatives directly. They stated that the gathering will also serve as a moment for collective mourning as the community awaits official updates from investigators.

Authorities have urged the public to allow due process to continue while forensic and investigative procedures are completed. They indicated that further details will be released once the formal processes are concluded.

Funeral arrangements and additional memorial information are expected to be announced at a later stage.
