Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki has commenced investigations into government officials working with criminals in the Ministry of Lands and the National Land Commission (NLC).
Speaking on March 27, CS Kindiki announced that detectives are actively investigating several cases of title deed fraud that has gripped Kilifi County in the recent past.
“The government is pursuing public officials who have been in cahoots with a network of criminals over fraud in land transactions in Kilifi County,” he said.
The CS explained that the exercise will target both private and public land.
Kindiki listed land fraud, illegal encroachment on private and public land and criminal gangs as the key security and enforcement priorities within the county.
The sale and consumption of illicit alcohol, narcotic drugs, and psychotropic substances and poor transition of children into secondary school were other issues mentioned by the CS.
Update on Shakahola
Further, the CS said the process of releasing bodies of the victims of Shakahola massacre has commenced.
He directed the scene of crime teams to make a final check at the Shakahola Forest to ensure the exhumation is complete and professionally closed.
He further revealed that the government will acquire parts of the Chakama Ranch where Pastor Paul Mackenzie carried out his atrocious crimes and build a memorial to remind the country of what happened.

“Once the Courts lift the prevailing injunction, the accountability of public officials who contributed to the occurrence of Shakahola atrocities in whatever manner will ensue through the Commission of Inquiry appointed by the President,” Kindiki said.
He was speaking after he held the State of the County Security Appraisal Forum with the Kilifi County Security Heads.
Kindiki Mombasa Tour
The CS visited the ultra-modern Miritini Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre in Mombasa.
He stated that the government has spent close to Ksh 166 million in setting up primary infrastructure at the facility, which is expected to be completed at a cost of Ksh 1.3 billion.

Kindiki said plans are underway to establish a fully-fledged Centre in each of the 47 counties.
He explained that this is line with government’s focus on stepping up treatment, rehabilitation, and reintegration of those battling addiction and dependence.
The CS noted that the move is part of the comprehensive strategy in the fight against narcotics, alcoholism, and psychotropic substances from the demand side.
