The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has emerged as the premier tertiary institution in Kenya, securing the third position overall in the latest Webometrics Ranking of World Universities 2024.
KMTC stands alongside esteemed institutions like the Kenya Forestry Research Institute and the Kenya School of Government, which claimed the first and second positions, respectively.
Dr. Kelly Oluoch, the Chief Executive Officer of KMTC, expressed gratitude for the ranking, emphasizing the College’s commitment to excellence in medical education and training.
“This milestone not only underscores our dedication to academic excellence but also highlights the global impact and influence of KMTC,” Oluoch added.
KMTC Rising to the Top
He also highlighted the dedication of KMTC’s staff and students, stating that this recognition solidifies KMTC’s position as a leading institution in the country.
Additionally, Kelly reiterated the College’s commitment to shaping the future of healthcare professionals and advancing medical education not only in Kenya but also beyond its borders.

“This milestone not only underscores our dedication to academic excellence but also highlights the global impact and influence of KMTC,” he added.
Nonetheless, when ranked alongside universities, KMTC achieved 43rd position, surpassing renowned institutions such as Africa Nazarene University, Multimedia University of Kenya, and KCA University, among others.
The University of Nairobi leads the list, followed by Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in the second position and Kenyatta University in the third place.
Webometrics Ranking
The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, also known as Ranking Web of Universities, evaluates universities globally based on a composite indicator considering web content volume and visibility.
It is led by the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Spain.

Their ranking aims to enhance the online presence of academic and research institutions and promote open-access publication of scientific results.
It began in 2004 and is regularly updated in January and July. As of 2021, it offers web indicators for over 31,000 universities worldwide.
