Ruto PayBill Directive
On June 30, President William Ruto issued a directive to merge all the government paybill numbers into one.
In his speech, the president said the government was streamlining financial management to fight corruption.
Further, he noted that government departments have been using different paybill numbers thus confusing the people.
“The 222222 offers a cost-effective way to collect payments as there are very small fees associated with it,” said Ruto.
Additionally, President Ruto said there was no need for one government to operate so many paybill numbers.
He added that many paybill numbers had made it hard for the office of the Auditor General to conduct a proper audit of the accounts.
President Ruto explained that the government was advancing to efficient approaches of collecting taxes as opposed to the traditional ways.
