The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services (KUCCPS) has announced that the application portal for 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates will open soon.
In a statement on Friday, February 2, KUCCPS said its portal will be open for four leavers seeking to join universities, Technical Training Colleges, the Kenya Medical Training College and the TVET institutions.
KUCCPS also noted that applications for candidates interested in joining the Open University of Kenya (OUK) will be open.
The application window, according to the placement service, will target 2023 KCPE candidates and four leavers who sat the national exam between 2000 and 2002.
“The online KUCCPS application portal will be open soon for placement of students to universities, TVET institutions, KMTC, TTC, and OUK,” the statement read.
KCSE class of 2023 and other form four leavers (KCSE 2000 to 2022) can apply”.
Meanwhile, the government has announced plans to ensure candidates transit to institutions of higher learning including candidates who scored grades E and D-.
The statement came days after a lobby group named the Operation Linda Jamii filed a petition seeking to stop KUCCPS from proceeding with the process of pacing candidates to various institutions.

In its petition, the lobby group argued that Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu and the Kenya National Examinational Council (KNEC) erred in the decision of changing the grading system used in the examination.
Cases Challenging KUCCPS placement process
Operation Linda Jamii noted that Machogu ought to have allowed public participation prior to effecting the change in the 2023 KCSE.
The Education CS was named as a correspondent in the case alongside KNEC and KUCCPS.

The case is slated for mention in the coming days even as KCSE candidates wait to make applications for their preferred courses and institutions.
In the results announced in January 2023, 201,133 (22.27%) candidates attained the minimum university entry qualification (Grade C+ and above).
Machogu, while announcing the results noted that the number was an improvement compared to 2022 and attributed it to the new grading system.
The new grading system, Machogu added, was meant to ensure that candidates are not locked out of their dream courses due to low cluster points affected by compulsory subjects.
“Under the new KCSE grading system, the overall grade at KCSE Examination has considered Mathematics, the best performed language subject among English/Kiswahili/Kenyan Sign Language and the best performed five subjects,” Machogu announced.
