The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened the portal for the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) students to change the institutions they were placed in.
According to the placement service, applicants will also be able to make changes to the options of courses they had earlier chosen as long as they meet the cut off points and the institutions, they are applying to allow it.
Further, applicants who want to change or transfer to other institutions have been directed to make their applications through the placement Student’s Portal at students.kuccps.net.
“The process targets applicants placed in universities and colleges in the 2024/2025 Placement Cycle and would wish to change their institutions.
The Inter-Institutional Transfer (IIT) also allows change of courses, provided that the applicant meets the applicable cut-off points, subject to endorsement by the receiving institution,” stated KUCCPS.

KUCCPS on How to Apply
To apply for the Inter-Institutional Transfer (IIT), Log in to the Student’s Portal students.kuccps.net.
After logging in successfully, click on the “Transfer Application” tab on the dashboard.
Enter the code of the institution and program you wish to transfer to and select the reason why you are seeking the transfer.
After, proceed to make a payment of Ksh1,000 following the provided payment instructions.
Submit your transfer application using the provided eCitizen Payment Reference Code.
Applicants can monitor the progress of applications for transfer through the Student’s Portal.
Additionally, once the request for transfer has been approved by KUCCPS, applicants have been directed to download and print the transfer letter and submit it to the institution they are transferring to.
“Both the receiving and releasing institutions are required to endorse your application and you can monitor this through the portal.
“If the receiving institution declines to endorse the application for transfer, you will be notified through the portal and advised to try a different program in either the same institution or a different one. The process will move to KUCCPS after the endorsements,” explained the statement.

New instructions on IIT Payment Procedure
At the same time, KUCCPS has detailed new guidelines for making payment for the inter institution transfer applications, accommodating both M-pesa and eCitizen payment methods.
After clicking the Submit button in the online application form, a pop-up will be displayed with a “Click Here to Pay” link. If you had already paid, enter the Payment Reference Code generated by eCitizen.
Submit the code by clicking on the link which will redirect you to a page with eCitizen payment instructions.
Moreover, if you had not made payment, choose your preferred payment method from the provided options and proceed to pay as provided.
For M-PESA, click on the relevant button and the payment details will be displayed including Business Number (222222), a Payment Reference Code and the required amount.
Use the M-Pesa Menu on your phone and make the payment following the provided instructions. Enter your M-PESA PIN and Send.
After paying, enter the eCitizen Payment Reference Code in the provided slot and click “Submit”.
“The same Ref. Code will be required for any subsequent changes to your application; hence, you are advised to retain it. DO NOT use MPESA transaction code.”
Also, you will be required to enter your KUCCPS Student’s Portal password to complete the submission.
Note, after successful submission, you will see a flow chart on the application page for tracking your application.
