The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services (KUCCPS) has opened the application portal for 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education – KCSE candidates.
In a statement on Thursday, February 8, KUCCPS announced that the portal is now open, paving way for form four leavers seeking to transition to higher education.
The application window, KUCCPS noted, will not only target 2023 KCSE candidates but also form four leavers of the years between 2000 and 2022.
Candidates will have an opportunity to select their preferred universities, TVET institutions, and the Kenya Medical Training College.
Those willing to join Teachers Training Colleges (TTCs) and the Open University of Kenya will also have an opportunity to seek a slot during the window.
“It’s time to apply for your preferred course in an institution of your choice,” the statement read.
The deadline for the application, according to the portal, will lapse in 12 days (February 20)
How to apply for KUCCPS placement
Applications, according to KUCCPS, can be submitted from any location through a smartphone or laptop as long as you are connected to the internet.
To apply, candidates should access the KUCCPS website online via (www.kuccps.net) and select the students portal under the ‘portals’ option.
After accessing the website, create an account by filling in the details as required.
Then log in into the portal using your KCSE Index number, Year of KCSE and password which should be your KCPE index number or birth certificate number.
Upon logging in, the candidate will access the dashboard with an interface showing the number of institutions and courses offering different courses.
Then proceed to view the various universities or colleges available for placement under the institutions tab.
Under each institution, for example Kenyatta University, is the list of courses offered and the requirements (cluster points) for qualification.

Select your preferred courses by adding them to your basket of courses and note down their respective codes.
To apply, click Application/Revision and key in the programme codes in the provided form in the order of priority.

Applicants can also choose to use the KUCCPS mobile app which is available for download from Google Play Store.
Once the system has accepted all your programme codes, submit.
To complete your submission, follow the payment procedure that will appear on your screen.

Who can apply
The minimum entry requirement for Degree Programmes is a Mean Grade of C+ (plus), while that of Diploma Programmes is C – (minus); for Craft Certificate Courses is D (plain); and for Artisan Certificate courses is E.
In the results released by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu in Janaury, 201,133 candidates attained the minimum university entry qualification (Grade C+ and above).
However, the Ministry has insisted that all candidates will have an opportunity to further their studies in higher learning institutions, placing an emphasis on TVETs.
According to KUCCPS, Kenya has 39 public and 30 private universities eligible for government scholarships and HELB loan.
On the other hand, the country has 237 TVET public colleges that are eligible for government scholarships and HELB loan.
