Makini School’s parent company, ADVTECH on Tuesday, November 26 announced that it has acquired Flipper International School in Ethiopia.
In a statement, the company announced that it has concluded a Ksh971.3 million agreement to acquire a 100% interest in Flipper International School.
“The ADVTECH Group (ADVTECH) announced today that it has concluded a $7.5mn agreement to acquire a 100% interest in Flipper International School in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, further reinforcing its position as the leading provider of private education in Africa.
The acquisition will add five schools and approximately 3,000 students to the group’s international portfolio,” part of the statement read.

According to Makini School’s parent company, the move aligns with ADVTECH’s Schools Division strategy to expand its footprint in East Africa, catering to the growing demand for private education.
It also marks the group’s second major expansion in the region since 2018, when the company acquired Makini Group of Schools and established Crawford International School, both in Kenya.
ADVTECH Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Geoff Whyte, welcomed the acquisition decision and vowed to uphold Flipper’s founding principles despite the acquisition.
“We are delighted to welcome Flipper International Schools to the ADVTECH Group and remain dedicated to its core values. Furthermore, the acquisition positions us well to grow our presence in the Ethiopian market, as well as expand our scale across the continent,” Whyte said.

Flipper International Schools was founded in 1998 by Menna Selamu Bekele and Serkaddis Seifu Yeteshawork.

Flipper International School operates five campuses located in Beklobet, in central Addis Ababa, and Summit, in the eastern part of the city.
