Officials from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) are appealing to the public to help identify a man caught on CCTV stealing vital broadcast equipment from an Azimio TV van.

The incident took place at the Total Energies carwash in Hurlingham, where the Azimio TV crew had parked their van for cleaning while awaiting the arrival of the body of ODM party leader Raila Odinga at Lee Funeral Home.

According to ODM Communications Director Philip Etale, the unidentified man entered the carwash area and walked off with a bag containing essential items, including a laptop and hard drives.

The equipment reportedly held important media files and logistical data related to the Azimio coalition’s activities.

ODM Pleads for Help

“The man is seen on CCTV wearing black and walking nonchalantly, as if he has done nothing,” Etale said in a public statement posted on X, formerly Twitter. “We are appealing to anyone who may recognize him to come forward. We shall appreciate.”

Footage from security cameras shows the suspect walking calmly through the premises, raising concerns about the ease with which the theft occurred.

Police have not yet made an arrest, and it remains unclear whether the suspect acted alone.

The ODM has not disclosed the exact contents of the stolen drives but confirmed they were critical to the party’s ongoing operations.

Anyone with information is urged to contact local law enforcement or reach out directly to ODM officials.

Reaction from Citizens

Kenyans have taken to social media to express frustration following the theft.

The reactions, ranging from concern to conspiracy, have sparked fresh debate on security and political transparency.

“You can’t leave a car with valuables unattended unless you are visiting Kenya for the first time,” one user, Freddy Black, commented on Facebook.

Another user, Happy Kenyans, questioned the crew’s protocol: “Why was the van left unlocked? And why was there no one inside? Who wanted some significant data disappear from ODM records?”

Theories have also begun circulating online, with some users suggesting the theft may not have been random. “Can that hard disk provide evidence leading to Baba’s demise?” asked Mauru Makori Okero, referring to Raila Odinga.

Rashid Anyanga added, “He knew exactly where the cameras are facing and tried to hide his face.”

Role of Azimio TV

Azimio TV plays a role in documenting and broadcasting the activities of the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

It serves as a digital media platform focused on delivering news, live streams, and behind-the-scenes content related to ODM and its leadership.

The channel is a tool for political communication, especially during rallies, press conferences, and public engagements.

It is often used to counter mainstream narratives, providing a more partisan perspective aligned with ODM values and objectives.

The loss of vital equipment, including hard drives and a laptop, could compromise sensitive footage and data.
