The National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) program has issued a new directive to all shortlisted applicants.

NYOTA urges selected youths to complete the Entrepreneurship Aptitude Test (EAT) ahead of the upcoming Validation Exercise set for October 24, 2025.

According to NYOTA, the EAT is a crucial step in evaluating the entrepreneurial skills and readiness of selected youth before they proceed to the next stage of the program.

The test aims to assess creativity, problem-solving, and business acumen among participants.

Complete NYOTA Entrepreneurship Aptitude Test

Applicants are required to send the word “NYOTA” to 40270 and follow the prompts to complete the aptitude test.

They are also advised to use the same mobile number they used during registration to ensure proper verification.

The organization clarified that the test is free of charge and can be taken on both smartphones and feature phones.

Participants who fail to receive a response after sending the initial message are advised to activate promotional messages by dialing *100*5*2*5*1#.

The EAT process involves selecting a preferred language and answering a series of questions via SMS.

Each response is submitted by replying with the correct option number. Once completed, participants will receive a confirmation message.

NYOTA further noted that youth who experience interruptions during the test, such as a phone going off, can resume from where they left off as long as they continue using the same SIM card. However, an answer once submitted cannot be edited or changed.

The Entrepreneurship Aptitude Test is part of NYOTA’s effort, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection and other government agencies, to empower young people with entrepreneurial capacity and create pathways for sustainable livelihoods.

About the Program

The NYOTA project is a government initiative funded by the World Bank, aimed at increasing employment and income through skilling, apprenticeship, and business support, while also promoting a savings culture among beneficiaries.

Former Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs Kipchumba Murkomen announced in December 2024 that the project seeks to empower 820,000 unemployed youths across Kenya.

At the time, he noted that the five-year initiative is designed to tackle youth unemployment by offering practical skills through apprenticeships and fostering entrepreneurship.

The program provides financial support to help participants start or grow business ventures. This support may take the form of grants, loans, or equity investments, depending on the nature and growth potential of the business.
