Two people have been reported missing after floods swept away a vehicle belonging to an Isiolo County Member of the County Assembly (MCA).
The victims, identified as Rajuel Lemantile and the driver, Paul Gitonga, were reportedly travelling from Kipsing to Isiolo when the incident occurred at the KMC bridge.

According to reports, the Toyota Prado belonging to Oldonyiro MCA David Lemantile was swept away by flash floods last night with three occupants on board.

However, Boniface Muriungi, who was also in the vehicle, managed to escape through the window as the floods carried the car about two kilometres away.

After receiving an alert about the tragedy, police officers from Isiolo Police Station rushed to the scene and managed to retrieve the vehicle. However, they were unable to locate the missing duo.

“Boniface managed to escape unhurt through the window. The other two are still missing, and a search is on currently,” Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga confirmed on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
“The vehicle was swept away for about 2km and has been recovered badly damaged.”
Muchiri also noted that residents of Safi Estate, who had earlier been trapped by the floods, had been rescued and evacuated to safer areas.
Officials are currently conducting a detailed assessment to establish the number of livestock lost and the extent of property damage caused by the flash floods.
“Members of the public, who were trapped inside their flooded houses, have been rescued and evacuated to safer areas. A tabulation of missing cows and goats is going on, including damaged property,” the police spokesperson noted.

Floods Wreak Havoc in Isiolo
Residents and traders in Isiolo’s Soko Mjinga area experienced severe flooding triggered by a heavy downpour, which destroyed property worth millions of shillings and displaced hundreds from their homes.
By the morning of Saturday, April 19, residents were seen clearing mud and water from their businesses and homes in an attempt to salvage what remained.
According to area manager Stephen Mwiti, more than 200 families had been affected by the flash floods.
The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) predicted that showers and thunderstorms will continue for the remaining part of the weekend in the North-eastern region, including the counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties.
