Mercy Tarus, the bold graduate who shot to the limelight for confronting Uasin Gishu county leadership, has received a job offer.
On Thursday, August 10, Narok Senator Ledama Olekina told Tarus that he would like her to work for him.
“Mercy Tarus, I would like you to work for me… speak your heart …the future belongs to candid youth! Let’s talk,” Olekina stated.
The Senator’s offer, however, drew mixed reactions with city lawyer and Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi asking the politician if he was offering a milking job.
“Milk your cows, Senator?” the lawyer sarcastically asked.
However, according to Cathy Mutuku, another Kenyan on Twitter, Uasin Gishu county leadership should be held responsible instead of silencing Mercy.
“Mercy doesn’t need to be silenced with a job, bring her and the team to senate, push for them to have their money back then when the dust has settled give her a job,” Mutuku noted.
Similarly, Wilson Toroitich challenged Olekina to use his position as a lawmaker to address the matter.
He also told the politician to consider funding Mercy’s Finland scholarship if she is interested in pursuing her studies abroad.
“Take to the floor of the senate the matter in Uasin Gishu, that will help the parents to be compensated.
Secondly, ask her if she still wants to go to Finland or Canada (depending on where her initial plan was before she was scammed), then you can take care of it,” stated Toroitich.
Was Mercy Tarus Disrespectful?
However, a Nairobi politician Alinur Mohamed castigated the frustrated lady saying that the packaging of her message was unprofessional.
According to Mohamed, the Kabarak University graduate should apologize to Senator Jackosn Mandago, Governor Jonathan Bii and his deputy John Barorot.
“I am disappointed with Mercy Tarus. I support her message but disagree with how she shared it.
She disrespected leaders from Uasin Gishu, like Senator Jackson Mandago and other people’s parents, by shouting at them and lecturing them.
We don’t do that here. She should apologize,” the Nairobi politician said.

Furthermore, the politician called out those applauding the lady arguing that they were promoting disrespect in the society.
“Those who are clapping for Mercy Tarus for being rude before her elders and Uasin Gishu leaders Governor Jonathan Bii, his deputy John Barorot, and Senator Jackson Mandago you should be ashamed of yourself because you are not helping solve the situation.” Alinur tweet read.
Consequently, the Nairobi politician pointed out that the issue at hand was a serious matter that required the intervention of the President.
“This is a very serious situation that even President William Ruto should call all the parents, guardians, and students to State House Nairobi and listen to them.”

For Geoffrey Moturi, commonly known as Kawangware Finest, Mercy Tarus had done nothing wrong, other than expressing herself.
“Yes, Mercy Tarus has set the bar for the timid gen z. It is time to wake up and speak fearlessly. Youths take your space. Put all leaders into account. Senator if you’ll mentor that girl, she will ouster Mandago come 2027 in the senatorial race I bet.”
