Mombasa Cement has responded after one of their truck drivers was captured on a video that has since gone viral recklessly overtaking at a corner.
The video seen by The Kenya Times showed two trucks overtaking and nearly hitting a rider on a motorcycle who was headed the opposite direction.
The two vehicles involved were KDG 168 J from Robian Company and KCE 454 M from Mombasa Cement.
“When we speak of reckless driving, it looks like this. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a biker or cager, such will lead to a head-on collision,” Rex Maina shared as caption to the video.
“The fact that 1st quarter accidents statistics aren’t alarming to Govt should even worry us more. We have normalized death.”
The X user further noted that more lives will be lost due to road accidents if no action is taken, adding that the motorist handled the bike skillfully despite just getting back on the road two years after an accident.
“We will continue losing lives, publish more statistics until people start taking law into their hands. Wakili(rider) didn’t react, and he handled the bike very skillfully especially being that he just recovered for almost 2 years after a nasty accident. Something needs to change,” stated
Mombasa Cement Response
In response to the complaints, Mombasa Cement stated that they were saddened to hear about the unfortunate experience Maina’s colleague identified as Wakili Timam had on the road.
“Based on the footage shared, our team can ascertain that the truck involved is an externally contracted transporter, and we have reached out to them,” it noted.
