Motorists in Nairobi and nine other counties have been cautioned of expected traffic disruption along different roads over the weekend. The Mater Hospital in a traffic advisory on Friday, May 30, cautioned motorists ahead of the Mater Heart Run 2025.
The run, scheduled to take place on Saturday, will start at 7 am and is expected to end at 11 am.
In Nairobi, the run will start at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC). Mater Hospital notified the public that normal traffic flow will be partially interrupted seven roads for purposes of the safety of the participants of the event.
The roads include City Hall Way, Uhuru Highway, Haile Selassie Avenue, Ragati Road (Upperhill), Elgon Road, Bunyala Road and Parliament Road.
“Traffic police officers will be deployed at affected junctions and roundabouts along the listed roads to enable smooth flow of traffic. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes on the event date and time to avoid inconveniences,” the advisory reads.

Mater Heart Run traffic disruption
Traffic disruption is also expected to affect roads in Mombasa, Kericho, Nakuru, Nyeri, Bomet, Kisumu, Kakamega, Machakos, and Uasin Gishu.
The runs will start simultaneously at Loreto Convent Mombasa, Kericho Teachers’ College, Nakuru Athletics Club, Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, St. Mary’s Day & Boarding Primary School, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Ground, Bishop Sulumeti Girls, The Machakos School and Moi Girl’s Eldoret.
The Mater Heart Run was started in 2002 as one of the main fundraising avenues for the Mater Cardiac program.
Initially held only in Nairobi, the Heart Run has grown over the years and is now held in a total of ten counties.
The temporary disruption of traffic in several roads across the country comes after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced a disruption of over three months on Mombasa Road.

Mombasa Road closure
KeNHA in a notice on Wednesday, April 16, said that the disruption would affect the Mombasa-bound lanes near the Katani Road Junction, effective Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 10:00 PM.
The notice further indicated that the disruption would last for 92 days, ending on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at 6:00 AM.
According to the authority, the 92-day disruption is meant to facilitate the installation of fabricated footbridge beams at the busy junction, to ease pedestrian movement and enhance safety in the long term.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Katani Road Junction will experience traffic disruption along the Mombasa bound lanes,” the authority noted in part.
“From Saturday, 19th April 2025 at 10.00 PM to Sunday, 20th July 2025 at 6.00 AM.”
The authority issued a traffic management plan for motorists, with diversions and lane closures affecting vehicles heading towards Mombasa.
Additionally, KeNHA urged motorists to adhere to the proposed detours and cooperate with police and traffic marshals on-site to reduce delays and confusion.
