The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has announced traffic disruptions along the Ngong-Suswa Road at the Ngong Town section.
In a notice on May 14, 2025, the authority stated that the section will be closed to allow major construction works under constrained site conditions.
“We wish to notify the general public that the section of the Ngong-Suswa Road between Km 0+000 (Matonyok) and Km 2+600 (Junction to KIBHT) will be closed,” the statement read.
The authority urged motorists to use an alternate diversion route through Lemiso Road, Maragara Road, and Kibiko.
KeRRA Announces Closed Roads
The first phase of the closure affects the section between Km 1+400 at Ngere Road Junction and Km 2+600 at the KIBHT junction, which has been closed from 12th May and will remain inaccessible until 20th May 2025.
The second phase will affect the stretch between Km 0+000 at Matonyok and Km 1+400 at Ngere Road Junction, which will also remain closed starting from May 12 but will extend for a longer period, with the road expected to reopen on June 11, 2025.
Alternative Routes for Motorists
In addition to Lemiso Road – Maragara Road – Kibiko, which is official diversion, KURA provided other alternative routes motorists can use during the closure of the Ngong–Suswa Road between Matonyok and KIBHT.
One alternative route is via Ngong Town through Kibiko to KIBHT, from Ngong Matonyok, motorists can drive towards Ngong Town, then proceed through Kibiko and approach KIBHT from the eastern side.

Additionally, another option is the Ngong–Oloolua–KIBHT back entrance route. Drivers can take a diversion through the Oloolua area from Matonyok and reconnect near KIBHT using internal access roads.
According to the map provided by KeRRA, drivers and motorists can use the Ngere Road Junction, linking up with the open section of Ngong–Suswa Road near Km 1+400.

Further Directives
Additionally, in the notice, the authority advised motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan indicated in the notice and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on-site.
The authority apologized to motorists for any inconvenience caused due to road closure.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused and appreciate your cooperation as we work to improve this vital infrastructure,” read the statement.
