Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has alleged that the driver of a People’s Renaissance Movement (PM Party) truck was arrested in Embu and the vehicle confiscated hours before the party was scheduled to begin its grassroots mobilization activities.

Amisi claimed the driver was detained overnight and moved around Embu in unmarked vehicles before being released at about 5 am on September 6.

According to the MP, the truck had been intended to support the party’s publicity activities ahead of its planned mobilization program in Tharaka Nithi.

Following the late release, Amisi argued that the vehicle could no longer be used for the activities planned for Saturday.

“The driver of a truck belonging to the PM party was arrested, moved around in unmarked cars within Embu, and the truck was confiscated. He has just been released now at 5 am, too late to do the publicity it was meant to do yesterday within Tharaka Nithi,” a statement from Caleb Amisi dated September 6 read.

Caleb Amisi Accuses Government of Political Interference

Amisi has alleged that the incident targeted the party’s political activities ahead of the 2027 election.

Further, Amisi has accused unnamed state actors of using power to frustrate political opponents.

He also warned that what he described as misuse of state power would end with the 2027 General Election.

“This misuse of power in countering political opponents has an end, and it is 2027,” Amisi said.

The allegations came as the PM Party prepared to hold its first major grassroots mobilization exercise in Tharaka Nithi.

According to the PM Party’s program, the grassroots mobilization included stops at Kairuni PCEA Church, Chogoria, Marima, Ndagani and Chuka on Sunday.

PM Party Begins Nationwide Grassroots Drive

Caleb Amisi had announced the Tharaka Nithi activities on September 5, describing them as the beginning of the party’s “ground invasion” as it seeks to expand its political support.

Its official events calendar shows that the Tharaka Nithi tour will be followed by a three-day coastal program from September 11 to 13, covering Kilifi, Mombasa, and Taita Taveta.

The party has planned engagements in several regions, including Taita Taveta, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, Thika, Makueni, Busia, Vihiga, Nandi, Kakamega, Bungoma, and Trans Nzoia.

Kenyans React to Alleged Arrest

The allegations triggered mixed reactions on social media, with some supporting Amisi while others questioned his account of the incident.

According to Evans Okaalo, a member of the public, Amisi should be blaming the government and instead question when he will declare his presidential bid.

Despite members of the public expressing their political differences with MP Caleb Hamisi, they have criticized the alleged arrest.

Additional supporters of the MP described the development as “evil,” while another said the incident was only a matter of time.

However, some accused Amisi of looking for an excuse for what they predicted could be a poor turnout at the day’s political activities.

On the other hand, some users questioned whether authorities had explained why the truck was confiscated. At the same time, some used the development to make broader political comments, including references to the opposition’s emerging campaigns ahead of 2027.
