Investigations into the murder of Eric Maigo, the slain former Finance Director at the Nairobi Hospital, have taken a different turn.
An assessment carried out at the Mathari Hospital established that the suspect is an adult between 20 and 21 years.
Additionally, the investigations established that she is of sound mind and hence fit to stand trial.
The discovery is a breakthrough for detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations – DCI, which had pleaded for more time to finalize its assessment of the suspect and the crime scene.
In a ruling delivered on September 28, a Nairobi Court granted the prosecution its request to detain the suspect for 21 days.
Prior to her arraignment in court, several reports had emerged including one holding that the prime suspect was a minor aged 16 years old.
In addition, the suspect’s mother talked to the media, lifting the lid on the circumstances under which her daughter escaped from home on the night when Maigo was killed.
According to her, the suspect left home that night after a quarrel between them.

In her interview, the mother said that she instructed her daughter to leave her house and only come back after the tempers have cooled.
However, she intimated that her daughter would come back home later in the night and went to bed knowing that she would spend the rest of the night in the house.
Unknown to the mother, her daughter would sneak out and end up in a crime scene as captured by CCTV cameras.
Suspect in Maigo murder was a petty thief
In terms of the daughter’s conduct, the mother said that she knew her daughter was a petty thief.
According to the mother’s revelations, her daughter had been accused of stealing money from her former school among other activities that raised suspicion over her conduct.

Meanwhile, investigations to gather concrete evidence in the Maigo murder case are ongoing ahead of the lapse of the time given to the detectives.
Upon completion, the investigation side will hand over a report to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for further advice or action.
This even as the gruesome murder of the middle-aged Finance Director continues to fade away from the limelight.
Maigo, who was found dead in his Nairobi home with 25 stab wounds, was buried on September 29 in Kisii County.
