The National Police Service (NPS) has addressed reports of raising alarm over the alleged participation of foreign nationals in protests witnessed around the country.
NPS on Monday, July 7, 2025, addressed a press statement purported to be issued by its spokesperson which alleged that the service had raised concerns over the “increased involvement of foreigners and undisclosed immigrants in violent protests in Nairobi and other parts of the country.”
However, the police service termed the statement as fake.
“This press statement circulating on social media, purporting to be issued by the Spokesperson of the National Police Service, is fake,” said NPS.

NPS flags statement
The flagged statement alleged that foreigners from over eight countries had been arrested in connection with the destruction of property, looting and burning of police stations. These included foreigners from neighboring countries of Uganda, South Sudan and Somalia.
“The NPS working closely with the department of immigration, has intensified crackdown on illegal immigrants working in Kenya without proper documentation,” it read in part.
Also, the statement alleged that the service was calling on “patriotic Kenyans to identify illegal immigrants and inform the nearest police stations for arrest and subsequent deportations”.
During the June 25 protests, at least eight police stations were burned down and vandalized in separate incidents.
Among the affected were the Juja, Villa, Molo, Ongata Rongai, Matuu, Mai Mahiu and Ol Kalou Police Stations.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen also revealed that at least five guns were stolen during the chaos at the Dagoretti Police Post in Kiambu County.
CS Murkomen, while addressing the incidents said what unfolded in parts of the country was terrorism disguised as dissent.
He also promised action on the planners and executors.
“There was no peaceful demonstration, it was riots, chaos and anarchy,” he said.
“This was not just violence. It was an orchestrated campaign of terror, an assault on our people, our Constitution, our institutions, our values, and the very soul of this Republic.”
Hundreds arrested
Murkomen added that what was billed as a peaceful protest was, in truth, a calculated disguise, a coordinated descent into chaos masked as civic expression.

Following the launch of investigations, at least 485 people have been arrested in connection with the violent scenes that rocked parts of the country during the protests.
Of this number, 448 suspects have already been charged in court while 37 remain under active investigation for serious crimes.
The suspects are linked to crimes such as murder, terrorism, rape, gang rape, arson, robbery with violence, incitement and possession of illegal firearms.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss, Mohamed Amin, said that what began as peaceful demonstrations was infiltrated and hijacked by a well-coordinated network of criminal actors.
