NYS Announces Driver and Receptionist Job Opportunities: How to Apply

The National Youth Service (NYS) on Wednesday January 2025 announced various job opportunities across different cadres.

In a statement, the Youth Service called on qualified NYS graduates to apply.

“Dear NYS Graduates, The Employment Liaison Office, is pleased to present the below employment opportunities from our distinguished clients,” read the notice.

NYS announces job opportunities for its graduates

One of the job opportunities that was advertised is the position for a driver which includes 7 posts for female drivers only.

The duties and the responsibilities for the position include:

  1. Safely transport vehicles, staff and equipment on safari excursions, ensuring reliability and integrity.
  2. Conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections and routine maintenance to ensure the safety and reliability of safari vehicles.
  3. Provide mechanical assistance and repairs in the field, addressing any vehicle issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  4. Navigate safari routes with precision, prioritizing the safety and comfort of staff and
  5. Maintain cleanliness and organization of safari vehicles, ensuring they are stocked with necessary supplies.
  6. Collaborate with safari guides and other staff to coordinate logistics and optimize guest satisfaction.

NYS graduates eyeing to apply for this position must meet the following requirements:

  • Must have more than 3 years experience driving experience especially in tour safaris in Kenya ( Minimum 3 years continuous)
  • Proficient and good command of English as a language
  • Know basic mechanical knowledge and car maintenance.
  • NYS Graduate with proven driving experience
  • They should be able to work all over Kenya.
  • Valid Driver’s License ABCE..
  • Ability to use a smartphone and Google Maps with ease
  • Commendable customer service skills and integrity
  • Should be organized, good character, courteous and professional
  • The candidate must hold Bronze or Silver, KPSGA certificate
  • Driving around Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania area and the airports
  • Be familiar with most hotels locations in all parks and national reserves
  • Explaining the area and places of interest to clients
  • Customer service and resolving customer issues
  • Must have good knowledge of the tourism circuits
  • Speaking and understanding of foreign language is an added advantage
  • Passionate about the wilderness and good knowledge about flora and fauna to pass on to the team
  • First Aid Training Certificate
  • Must have current Certificate of Good conduct

Elsewhere, the NYS advertised jobs in the hospitality which includes 3 posts for receptionist and 3 posts for bar tenders.

The duties and responsibilities of a receptionist include:

  1. Greet and welcome guests upon their arrival at the hotel, ensuring a positive first impression.  
  2. Manage the check-in and check-out processes efficiently, handling reservations and payments accurately.  
  3. Provide information about hotel services, local attractions, and assist guests with inquiries or special requests.  
  4. Maintain the reception area, ensuring it is organized and presentable at all times.  
  5. Collaborate with other hotel departments to ensure seamless service delivery and guest satisfaction. 

Qualifications for persons intending to apply for receptionist position

Candidates wishing to apply for the receptionist must have:

  • Diploma /Certificate in front office management or a related Field
  • 1-year experience as front desk representative, agent or similar role.
  • Good organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Strong communication and people skills
  • previous work experience in an hospitality industry will be added advantage

Duties and responsibilities of a bartender include:

  1. Prepare and serve a variety of beverages, including cocktails, beer, and non-alcoholic drinks.
  2. Ensure the bar area is stocked, clean, and organized at all times.
  3. Interact with guests to take drink orders and offer personalized recommendations.
  4. Monitor inventory levels and assist in ordering supplies as needed.
  5. Adhere to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations.
  6. Handle cash and process payments accurately.
  7. Foster a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for guests at the bar.

Candidates who wish to apply for the bartender position must meet the following qualification requirements:

  1. Diploma or craft certificate in F&B or hospitality related course
  2. Proven experience as a bartender is an advantage.
  3. Knowledge of drink mixing and serving techniques.
  4. Strong customer service and communication skills.
  5. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
