Ministry of Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has confirmed the Lamu terror attack that occurred on Tuesday, August 1.
The CS reported that suspected terrorist attacked travelers along the Lamu-Witu- Garsen Highway, at Lango la Simba on Tuesday, August 1 at around 7.40 am near the border of Lamu and Tana River Counties.
Kindiki reported that one person was killed in the attack and ten others sustained injuries.
However, they are yet to determine the number of missing victims of the attack.
Moreover, the CS in the statement reported that security personnel conducting patrols along the highway responded swiftly leading to an engagement with the terrorists.

“Security personnel from the Nyangoro Forward Operating Base (FOB) who were conducting clearance patrols along the highway responded rapidly and an engagement with the approximately sixty (60) terrorists ensued, scattering them into the Boni Forest.” The statement reads in part.
Lamu Attack Casualties
The Interior CS also reported that two victims of the Lamu attack had serious injuries, adding that one of them succumbed while being evacuated for emergency Intensive Care Unit (ICU) treatment.

Nonetheless, the CS has announced that combined security operation of elite a contingent of the National Police Service (NPS) and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is currently underway.
“Treatment of the injured as well as the search and rescue of missing civilians is ongoing.” Kindiki said.
