The Open University of Kenya (OUK) has announced September 2024 and January 2025 intakes, inviting Kenyans to apply for admission.
In a notice, the university invited applications for enrollment in various courses including Bachelor of Data Science, bachelor of cybersecurity and digital forensics, Bachelor of Technology Education, and bachelor of entrepreneurship and business.
The institution also invited applications for postgraduate diploma courses in learning design and technology and postgraduate diploma in leadership and accountability.
Based in the Konza Technopolis, the university was established to provide education opportunities to masses beyond physical buildings and in August 2023, President William Ruto awarded it a charter.
How to Apply
Interested individuals can apply for the courses through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services (KUCCPS) admission portal dedicated to the OUK (ouk.kuccps.net) if they have Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) qualifications, or using OUK admission portal (admissions.ouk.ac.ke) if they wish to be considered for admission based on recognition of prior learning.
According to the OUK website, admission applications will be continuous without any deadlines.
Students will be put in cohorts depending on the programmes for ease of administration of the programmes. However, it is important to check the university’s website for specific instructions.
Foreign students can also apply for OUK courses. However, they should review specific admission requirements for international applicants and may need to provide additional documentation, such as proof of English proficiency.
The OUK admissions office usually communicates to successful and unsuccessful applicants through email as soon as the process of admission is complete.

How Much Do the OUK Programmes Cost?
The cost of programmes included in the September 2024 and January 2025 intake range from Ksh 105,000 to Ksh 115,000 per year.
Bachelor of data science, Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics, Bachelor of Business and Entrepreneurship, and Bachelor of Economics and Statistics cost Ksh 105,000.
On the other hand, post graduate diploma in learning design and technology and post graduate diploma in leadership and accountability courses cost Ksh 110,000 while Bachelor of Technology Education cost Ksh 115,000
However, students outside East Africa will pay more by 10 percent according to the OUK.

Applicants can apply for government financial support through the official scholarship and loan application portal.
The university plans to venture into other programmes in future covering data science, computing, statistics, artificial intelligence, interactive technologies, educational leadership, health sciences, and agriculture and food systems.
