Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has narrated how he was attacked by a group of rowdy youth during an encounter he initially believed was friendly.
In his first press briefing since he was attacked on Thursday, Osotsi said the youth approached him shouting “Senator”. At first, Osotsi thought it was one of his routine encounters with the public. To him, the group did not appear hostile, and he invited them to come closer and greet him.
However, he said the situation quickly turned violent.
“I saw a group of youth, and they were shouting ‘Senator’. They didn’t look hostile, so I said, ‘Wacha wakuje kunisalimia.’ I didn’t see I was in danger until they started hitting me,” he said.
Osotsi further explained that the group, which he estimated to be between 15 and 20 people, later turned aggressive and questioned his political support before assaulting him.

He claimed the attack escalated quickly, leaving him unconscious before his security intervened.

According to him, one of the attackers also attempted to draw a weapon during the incident before being stopped.
“Before long, I was unconscious because they were attacking me so hard. I tried to escape. I fell. And they kept attacking me. At that point, I think my security detail had a concussion. He came quickly. One of the men who attacked me tried to pull out a gun to shoot me. He tried to pull out a gun to shoot me,” said the Senator.
Osotsi said he was eventually rescued by his security team and taken to the hospital following the confrontation.
The senator said he had a separate series of events earlier, including meetings with local sports officials and associates, which preceded the incident.
Vihiga Senator Attacked in Acacia
Osotsi was attacked by a group of armed individuals in Kisumu while on a routine visit to the Acacia area and Java Restaurant for a haircut.
In response to the attack, detectives in Kisumu have already arrested three suspects alleged to be behind the group that injured the senator on Wednesday.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the trio was nabbed following intelligence operations and a tip-off from the public.
The DCI also appreciated the members of the public who volunteered useful information to aid the ongoing investigations and urged continued cooperation as detectives work to bring all perpetrators to justice.
The multi-agency body vowed heightened investigations into the incident to ensure additional suspects linked to the incident are brought to book.
They are currently in police custody, being processed pending their arraignment.
