Police in Kisii County have seized 588 kilograms of suspected bhang worth a street value of Ksh.17 million.
In a statement on Saturday, October 11, the National Police Service (NPS) said the bhang was recovered from two vehicles intercepted by police officers on duty.
“In Kisii County, NPS Officers from Moticho Police Station and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Gucha South on 11/11/2023 nabbed two motor vehicles (MV) loaded with 14 sacks and 6 bales of suspected bhang,” read the statement in parts.
According to NPS, a total of 189 Kgs of the bhang was in the MV KBY XXX and 399 Kgs in MV KBQ XXX, all totaling 588KGS with a street value of Ksh.17,640,000.
Further, NPS said the police officers arrested five suspects while two others are on the run.
“5 suspects namely, Livingstone Akoko, Maxon Ochieng, Fan Odhiambo, Maxwel Musuku and Abdirahman Ismael were also arrested,” said NPS.
Besides, the police explained that efforts are underway to arrest two other suspects that escaped the police dragnet during the operation.
“The exhibits including the suspected substance, MVs (KBQ XXX Toyota Kluger, Nissan X-trail XXX, ISUZU), and an extra number plate for MV KBR 479A are detained at Nyamarambe Police Station,” read the statement.
Also, the NPS said the case is pending under investigation by DCI Gucha South.
In addition, the NPS appreciated members of the public for their continued support in the fight against crime.

Police Find Bhang in Church
On Tuesday, October 31, Police officers in Ongata Rongai raided a church selling bhang to its congregants.
Police who got a tip off from concerned individuals in the community managed to arrest some members while others fled the scene.
Further, the officers stated that they confiscated Ksh6 million worth bhang packed in 26 bags that were already being sold to other individuals in Rongai.
According to the officers the church had been operational for a long period and had many congregants.

“We have confiscated 26 bags of bhang and one of the bags has a type that is referred to as stones.
“The stones were about 40. So, you can only imagine the worth of the bhang we have found here today,” the police commander stated.
Moreover, the officers arrested some of the suspects who were members of the church while others escaped.
The officers revealed that they suspected that all the members of the said church were marijuana users.
