Raila Accuses Gachagua of Planning Violence Against Azimio Supporters

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance leader Raila Odinga has revealed an alleged plan by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to cause chaos on Monday, March 27 during the opposition’s mass demonstrations in Nairobi.

In a presser held at his Capitol Hill office, Raila who was flunked by former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka among other Azimio leaders said DP Gachagua held a meeting at his Karen home with National Assembly majority leader Kimani Ichungwa and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro with the aim of scuttling next week’s Azimio la Umoja mass demonstrations.

“Mr Rigathi Gachagua convened a meeting at his residence in Karen. In attendance were Mr Kimani Ichungwa and also Mr Ndindi Nyoro. They had invited several youths from different parts of the country. And that meeting turned out to be a strategy session to plan to counter the demonstrators on Monday,” Raila said.

Raila further claimed that the youth would be given uniforms similar to those won by his supporters under the Movement for the Defence of Democracy (MDD) banner to infiltrate the group and cause chaos.

“We have very authentic information that on Tuesday evening, Mr Rigathi Gachagua convened a meeting at his residence in Karen and in attendance were Kimani Ichung’wah and Ndindi Nyoro. They invited youth from different parts of the country to that meeting.

“That meeting turned out to be a strategy session to plan to counter the demonstrators on Monday. The plan, according to the information we have, is that these youth are going to be given uniforms similar to those of the MDD, our movement. Then they will mix with our youth and accompany them throughout the demonstrations,” Raila said.

Raila further detailed that the youth had been instructed to harm people during the protests a move to give a reason for the trial of the arrested Azimio members of Parliament to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The Azimio leader maintained that the movement intended to participate in a peaceful protest adding that plans by the deputy president to cause chaos would fail.

“We want to condemn in the strongest terms protests this criminal plan by these people to try and cause bloodshed in our country.

“We have said that we are a peaceful movement and we don’t want any bloodshed,” Raila said.
