Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition has formally served the police with a notice of their planned protest set for March 27 and 30, 2023.
Moreover, Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni reported that they presented the notice on Wednesday, March 22 to Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome as per the law.
“The media is now our witness that we have complied like we did last time but the police denied it,” Kioni stated.
This move by the Raila Odinga-led coalition came after Nairobi Police Commander Adamson Bungei declared that Monday, March 20 demonstrations were illegal on grounds that Azimio did not inform the police three days prior to the protests.
Nevertheless, the Constitution of Kenya allows for peaceful assembly and protest. Moreover, the Public Order Act, Cap 56 of the Laws of Kenya, provides that anyone planning a public gathering or demonstration must notify the police at least three days in advance.
Furthermore, Azimio Leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday, March 21 announced that the opposition will henceforth hold demonstrations on Monday and Thursday of every week.
