President William Ruto has appointed former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero to a government job.
In a gazette notice dated November 15, Ruto appointed Kidero to be the Chairperson of the Kenya National Trading Corporation.
Ruto revoked Tene Debasso’s initial appointment and replaced him with Kidero.
The President explained that the appointment is in accordance with the State Corporation Act.
Kidero will serve for three years effective November 15, 2024.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint- Evans Odhiambo Kidero (Dr) to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya National Trading Corporation, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from November 15, 2024. The appointment *of Hussein Tene Debasso is revoked,” reads the gazette notice.
Evans Kidero Political Career
Kidero served as the first governor of Nairobi County between 2013 and 2017.
He won the 2013 Nairobi gubernatorial elections on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket against Ferdinand Waititu.
In 2017, Kidero sought re-election as the Governor of Nairobi County under the ODM but lost to Jubilee Party candidate, Mike Sonko.
He went back to his home county, Homa Bay, to run for the same position in the 2022 elections.
Kidero contested as an independent candidate but lost to Gladys Wanga of the ODM party.
Other Appointments
Ruto ALSO appointed Mark Lomunokol to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Sports Kenya, for a period of three years, with effect from the November 15, 2024.
Additionally, the President named Teobald Mukundi Wambugu as the new Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Tana Water Works Development Agency.
He will serve from November 15, 2024, up to July 4, 2025.
“The appointment of James Gathaka Wanyaga is revoked,” Ruto said.

Ruto also appointed Dr. Thuo Mathenge to be the Chairperson of the Board of Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization.
Mathenge will serve for a period of three years, with effect from November 15, 2024.
He revoked the appointment of Peter Weru Kinyua.
In addition, Ruto appointed Dr. Wenwa Akinyi Oranga to be the Chairperson of the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute.
She will also hold the position for a period of three years, with effect from the November 15, 2024.

The President has also named Dr. Nuh Nassir Abdi as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Animal Genetic Resources Centre, for a period of three years, with effect from the 15th of November 2024.
He has revoked the appointment of Victor Kioko Munyaka.
Further, Ruto appointed Mark Kosgei Chesergon to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kerio Valley Development Authority.
Anab Mohamed Gur, on his part, was appointed to be a member of the Nairobi Rivers Commission.
Both Anab and Chesergon will serve for three years with effect from the November 15, 2024.
