President William Ruto has directed a contractor working on the Kitui road project to add an extra three-kilometer stretch leading to the residence of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, saying his government is committed to developing Kenya without political discrimination.
Speaking on October 26, 2026, during the launch of the Kandwia–Kyuso–Tseikuru Road in Kora, Kitui County, Ruto said Kalonzo deserved to benefit from government despite their political differences.
“For you, the contractor, I don’t want to see the hardship Kalonzo has been put through. For this road being constructed, three kilometers lead to his residence. Make sure it is also included. I am the President, and I am developing the country, and Kalonzo is a citizen,” Ruto said.
The President also asked residents to visit Kalonzo and inform him that his “younger brother,” Ruto, had visited the area.
Ruto Urges Kalonzo to Reciprocate Political Goodwill
Ruto further called on Kalonzo to reciprocate what he described as gestures of goodwill the President and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki extended to him over the years.
The President recalled that he campaigned for Kalonzo in 1992, when the Wiper leader contested on a KANU ticket, and said the historical political relationship should be acknowledged despite present-day differences.
Ruto also cited Kindiki’s support for Kalonzo during his 2007 presidential bid, calling the past interactions evidence of goodwill between political leaders.
In addition, the president called upon Kalonzo to support him in his 2027 presidential bid.
The President also claimed he had warned Kalonzo about an interview in which the interviewer questioned him about his name, identification documents, and education level.

Alfred Mutua on Current Government
Cabinet Secretary for Labor and Social Protection, Alfred Mutua, thanked Ruto for appointing him the a government position, despite what he described as the limited electoral support the President received from Kitui residents.
Mutua praised the president, saying he is a good, kind-hearted, and God-fearing leader who serves the country, not his own interests.
Supporting the president’s call for support, Kalonzo, the CS, emphasized that for years, people who wanted power used him to get into the office without him getting any benefits.
“The president is God-sent; the way he has spoken, he has shown how Kalonzo has been suffering for years and has also not benefited from road projects. He has ordered for the road to go up to Kalonzo’s residence because he cannot allow a leader to suffer,” CS Abel Mutua stated.
CS Mutua urged the residents of Kitui to support the president, noting that the late Raila Odinga and former President Uhuru Kenyatta had politically played Kalonzo.
Issuing his advice, Mutua argued that the opposition would find it difficult to defeat the president and that it was a chance for residents to ensure they remain in government.
Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka, popularly known as Kawaya, Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, and Kitui South MP Dr Rachael Nyamai, among other supporters of the president, also called upon Kalonzo to join Ruto
