Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has come out to defend his university performance after sharing his degree certificate online.
Taking to social media on February 1, 2024, the controversial lawmaker hit back at those doubting his academic qualifications.
“Those who were doubting my education I got second class lower division Bachelor of commerce Banking and Finance,” he said.
The first-time parliamentarian went on to share the official certificate from Egerton University, confirming that he graduated from the Nakuru-based institution in December 2013.
Salasya further claimed that he was a student leader in campus, which partly affected his grades.
“I was a student leader with a lot of responsibilities no wonder I didn’t do well but I tried,” he added.
Furthermore, the outspoken MP went on to claim that he qualifies to vie for gubernatorial seat due to his academic qualifications.
Salasya blames governor
The MP has been at loggerheads with Kakamega County governor Fernandes Barasa since he was elected to office.
During a public gathering on January 21, 2024, he accused the governor of being behind his predicament after he was summoned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

“I know the person doing this is one (Governor Barasa). I want to tell the governor to do his job and let me do mine, and I respect you, stop frustrating me.
“My only problem was KMTC and Mumias Sugar. I have let him be,” the MP stated.
He made the remarks before he appeared at the Integrity Centre for grilling by EACC on Tuesday January 23,2024.
The parliamentarian was summoned after assaulting a Kakamega Member of County Assembly (MCA) on January 12, 2024.
Bullish and defiant
While speaking after the grilling, the first time MP noted that he will not allow any institution in the country to intimidate him.

Also, in November 2023, the MP blamed the governor after he was attacked by goons during a political event on Sunday, November 12 in Mumias West, Kakamega County.
The legislator was seen in a viral video addressing residents before what seemed like a fight ensued thence disrupting the political gathering.
According to reports, the MP was speaking over the state of the sugar sector in the region while defending the Mumias Company investor against the farmers’ wishes.
