Several people are feared dead and others injured following a tragic accident involving a commuter bus and a truck along Mombasa Road.
The tragic accident which occurred on Monday, February 12 near Syokimau was caused by a tipper that reportedly collided with a bus belonging to the Embassava Sacco.
Emergency services were deployed at the scene to helps in the rescue operations.
Crowds have also been reported at the scene leading to a building up of traffic along the busy road.
“The sight was haunting – the bus crumpled like a piece of bread, leaving me with unanswered questions about how someone could be safe on our roads,” a witness noted.

According to some of the witnesses the lorry hit the Embassava bus from behind.
Police Confirm Accident
Athi River South subcounty police commander Jos Mudavadi while confirming the incident noted that two people died on the spot while several other passengers sustained injuries.
The police commander added that the accident occurred after the lorry rammed into the passenger bus belonging to the Embassava Sacco from behind pushing it into a ditch.
Additionally, he stated that the two vehicles were moving from Nairobi CBD towards Mombasa when the accident occurred.
Traffic officers from Athi River police station responded to the scene and cleared it.

The wreckage was moved to Athi River police station awaiting inspection and bodies of the victims were taken to a local mortuary.
Recent Road Accident
The incident occurred just hours after Rwandese coach Gervais Hakizimana and World Marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum perished in a horrific car crash at Kaptagat region on the Elgeyo Marakwet-Ravine Road.
In another recent accident,17 people were confirmed dead and over 50 others injured after a road accident involving a super metro bus and a lorry.
The incident occurred at Ahero junction in Kisumu County on January 29.
Super metro transport company confirmed the incident and conveyed its condolences to the affected families.
