Royal Media Service (RMS) founder Samuel Kamau Macharia popularly known as SK Macharia alongside four other tycoons have been sworn in as members of the Murang’a County Budget and Council Forum.
The ceremony was graced by Governor Irungu Kang’ata, unfolding in a spectacle live broadcast on every platform that Macharia had pioneered including Citizen TV.

This groundbreaking appointment signals Macharia’s venture into the realm of public governance, as he and fellow council members undertake the pivotal role of advising Governor Kang’ata on policies concerning county budgeting and economic development.
The ceremony, held in Kilimani, was a testament to Macharia’s multifaceted influence, seamlessly transitioning from a media mogul to government advisor.

Governor Kang’ata, in his address, outlined the ambitious agenda for the newly appointed council members.
“Let’s create an environment that attracts the best investors,” he passionately declared, emphasizing the potential for job creation, especially for the youth.

The Governor in his speech envisioned a county flourishing with opportunities, powered by the collective wisdom of academia, business tycoons, and professionals, carefully selected to contribute their rich experiences.
Other Tycoons on the Murang’a Budget & Council Forum
SK Macharia and the other tycoons sworn in to the county’s budget forum were appointed in November 2023.
Among the notable names joining the RMS boss are luminaries such as former Equity Chairman Peter Munga, Businessman Jimnah Mbaru, Professor Olive Mugenda, and Ambassador Mary Muthoni.

The Murang’a County Budget and Council Forum, established in 2015, stood as a beacon for reconciliation and cohesion among the county’s leaders.
It is now further fortified by the inclusion of these tycoons.
Governor Kang’ata in November 2023 emphasized on the Export Processing Zone (EPZ), noting that it would impact the county’s development positively.
“We believe the proposed EPZ will be a game-changer in terms of economic growth and development of this county,” he asserted.
Therefore, this is one of the areas he expects the council to advise him on to foster development.
SK Macharia in Business
The royal media boss has track record of pioneering ventures, promising a symbiotic relationship between media prowess and economic revitalization.
Aside from Royal Media, SK Macharia is also the founder member of Rosy brand, a tissue company in Kenya.
It was the only tissue paper manufacturing company in 1976 which he later sold in 1989 to an investor for Ksh 250 million.
He later joined the world of media in which he established the Royal Media Services that encompasses Citizen TV, Radio Citizen as well as a fleet of other radio and local tv stations in Kenya.
