Standard Chartered Bank has announced changes in its leadership following the resignation of the Chief Technology & Operations Officer. It went ahead to announce the new appointee for the position.
In a notice on November 20, 2024, Standard Chartered Bank announced the resignation of Peter Gitau as the Chief Technology & Operations Officer effective 25 November 2024. He also stepped down as a member of the Board of Directors.
“Standard Chartered Bank Kenya Limited wishes to announce that Peter Gitau will be stepping down as a member of the Board of Directors and as the Chief Technology & Operations Officer effective 25 November 2024,” read the notice in part.
New appointment
In the same notice, Standard Chartered Bank also announced Jane Mwai as the new Chief Technology & Operations Officer.
“The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Jaine Mwai as our Chief Technology and Operations Officer The appointment is subject to the approval of the Central Bank of effect once the approval is received of Kenya and will take effect once the approval is received,” read a part of the notice.

According to the Bank, Mwai is set to bring her extensive knowledge and transformational leadership that will contribute greatly to the Bank’s strategic priorities. She has held several senior management roles that have refined her expertise in strategy development, programme implementation and execution.

Education Background
Mwai holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Management Economics from the University of Guelph in Ontario and a Graduate Diploma in Public Accounting from McGill University, Montreal, Quebec. Additionally, she is a graduate of the Female Future Leadership Development Programme of the Federation of Kenya Employers. She also holds certifications in Digital Transformation Strategy from the Yale School of Management and Artificial Intelligence Implications for Business Strategy from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

These changes come three months after Standard Chartered Bank appointed two members to its board of directors. Edith Chumba and Beverly Spencer Obatoyibo were appointed to the board in August 2024
