Jubilee Party acting secretary general Kanini Kega, and secretary general Jeremiah Kioni’s supporters engaged in a standoff on Wednesday, April 26 at the party’s headquarters in Kileleshwa.
Police officers who were deployed in the area had to use teargas to disperse the supporters who begun pelting stones at the Jubilee office.
Moreover, Jeremiah Kioni’s supporters tried to enter the Jubilee offices using force after being denied entry.
Moreover, minority leader Opiyo Wandayi and other ODM leaders were also blocked from entering the premises.
Some Jubilee party members opined that ODM should not interfere with Jubilee affairs. These sentiments came after the Political Parties Tribunal refused to quash NEC’s resolution that installed Kega as his replacement.

The tribunal in its judgement delivered on April 16 stated that the notice for the National Executive Committee meeting issued on February 2 and the subsequent NEC meeting on February 10 which imposed Kega was done in accordance with the party Constitution.
According to the tribunal, Kioni failed to first seek a resolution of the dispute regarding the NEC meeting before the Party’s Internal Dispute Resolution Committee (IDRC).
Furthermore, the tribunal held that a letter by the Registrar of Political Parties dated February 13 recognizing the installation of Kega as the new SG was in breach of the law.
