Three out of the four suspects who visited the home of the late world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum have surrendered to the police.
Abdulahi Dahir, Keiyo South Sub County Police Commander confirmed the report stating that the three showed up at the police station on Wednesday, February 14.
Further, he noted that police officers visited Kiptum’s father on February 13, to ascertain the claims before beginning an official investigation.
Dahir also noted that the suspects were Kenyan nationals who were residents of Elgeyo Marakwet.
“The suspects who were mentioned, were alleged by the father of the late Kelvin, today they appeared at the police station, and I am handing them over to the DCI of Elgeyo Marakwet.
“These are Kenyans and they are residents of Uasin Gishu County. Yesterday we went to the home to receive the allegations and that is when we started the investigations,” he stated.

Officer Abdulahi on Prior Reports of the Suspects
At the same time, the sub–County Police Commander indicated that they had not received any reports on the suspect, noting that they first heard on the incident through the media.
However, he assured members of the public that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) was conducting a thorough investigations.
We looked for the suspects because of the allegations made by the father of the deceased. We never received any prior reports or information on any of the four suspects.
Information about them came out when we lost Kelvin, when the father came out and talked to the media. We then immediately asked the DCi to investigate the matter further
Police Report on Kiptum’s Car
Earlier on Tuesday, February 13, Elgeyo Marakwet Police Officers confirmed that world Marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum and his Rwandan Coach Gervais Hakizimana died as a result of a normal traffic road accident.

Dahir explained that Kiptum’s vehicle veered off the road from the left side to the trench where it crashed, adding that the vehicle might have been speeding when the accident occurred.
“A vehicle which is at manageable speed can break in my understanding, somebody can apply breaks and it stops. That is why we suspect it was over speeding.
“The sensor to the airbag normally is at the front and if there were no impacts on the front part of the vehicle the airbags could not blow. The impact is on the top of the car,” said Dahir,” said Dahir.
