The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) courses that require mathematics as a compulsory subject primarily fall under the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields, as well as business and finance programs.

Mathematics is not only the foundation of STEM careers but also a crucial discipline for a wide range of fields, including business, law, finance, the creative arts, and social sciences.

The subject is also a life skill that enables us to develop logical reasoning, problem-solving activities and data literacy, which are essential skills for success in today’s fast-changing world.

With the advances in technology, the nature of research and business is becoming increasingly complex and quantitative. A good background in mathematics is essential for taking full advantage of these developments in technology.

KUCCPS Courses That Require Mathematics as a Compulsory Subject

This interdisciplinary program is tailored to meet the growing demand for professionals who apply mathematical reasoning and computational techniques to solve complex real-world problems.

Graduates are well-prepared for a wide range of career paths, including Data Scientist, Software Developer, Actuarial Analyst, Financial Analyst, Operations Research Analyst, Quantitative Analyst, AI and Machine Learning Specialist, and Research Scientist.

This course requires KCSE to mean grade C+ or its equivalent and a B in Maths.

Statistics

The BSc. The statistics program is aimed at producing graduates who are well-versed in the fundamental concepts and techniques of statistics, mathematics, and computing.

Pure and Applied Mathematics

The aim of this programme is to provide the student with the opportunity to develop confidence and skills in pure and applied mathematics so as to use mathematical modeling and mathematical techniques to solve real-world problems.

Pure Mathematics focuses on theoretical aspects of mathematics, such as algebra, analysis, geometry, and number theory. It’s more abstract and focuses on developing mathematical concepts without necessarily considering real-world applications.

Applied Mathematics focuses on using mathematical methods and techniques to solve real-world problems in various fields such as engineering, physics, economics, and data science.

Computer Science and IT

The program gives the student a strong foundation in each of the various areas of Computer Science, including software engineering, computer networks, internet technology, management information systems, computer graphics and multimedia systems.

The IT programme offers skills in the use of technology to manage and support business-related computer systems. The courses offer career-based training for the development of business information technology systems using varied programming techniques, and software and hardware configurations.

Requirements include a KCSE mean grade of C+ with a minimum C+ in at least four cluster subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Biology or any Group III or Any group I or Group II or Group IV or Group V.
