President Donald Trump on Sunday, May 11, announced what he described as a breakthrough in efforts to end the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, just one day after claiming to have brokered peace between longtime rivals India and Pakistan.
“A potentially great day for Russia and Ukraine!” Trump said in a post on social media.
“Think of the hundreds of thousands of lives that will be saved as this never-ending ‘bloodbath’ hopefully comes to an end,” the post further reads.
The president did not offer specific details on what agreement may have been reached or what role the United States played in negotiations.
Trump on Domestic Rebuilding
However, he emphasised a shift in American priorities toward domestic rebuilding and international trade.
“It will be a whole new, and much better, world,” Trump wrote. “I will continue to work with both sides to make sure that it happens. The USA wants to focus, instead, on Rebuilding and Trade. A big week upcoming!”
Trump’s comments come amid heightened global tensions and follow his announcement on Saturday, May 10, that he had helped mediate peace talks between India and Pakistan, both of which have fought multiple wars since their independence and maintain a volatile relationship, particularly over the disputed Kashmir region.

The White House has not released an official statement or additional information about the nature of the agreement.

Brokers’ Truce Between India and Pakistan
Pakistan and India’s governments had agreed to a ceasefire after hours of fighting between the two nations.
The announcement of the ceasefire was made by US President Donald Trump.
In a statement on Saturday, May 10, 2025, President Trump said he was pleased to announce that the two nations solved their differences amicably.

“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire. Congratulations to both countries on using common sense and great intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump stated.
The conflict between the two nations stemmed from missiles fired at India’s Kashmir, killing 26 people on April 22, 2025.
In response, India retaliated with missile strikes on alleged militant targets in Pakistan-administered regions.
“I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site,” the White House statement read.
