Kirinyaga Women Representative Jane Njeri Maina on Saturday, November 18 came face-to-face with Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru in a function led by President William Ruto– months after she accused the county chief of plotting her attack.
Speaking during the commission of a road project in the county led by President Ruto, Njeri Maina launched a thinly veiled attack recounted how goons descended on her but said she had forgiven the governor.

In addition, the Kirinyaga County Member of Parliament said that she had forgiven the youths mobilized to attack her.
But Njeri wanted the perpetrators of the attack to heed her call for peace in the county. Addressing the crowd, Njeri Maina asked leaders in the county to prioritize peace-oriented politics and shun violence.

“Your Excellency (President Willim Ruto) you know while you were away some people tried to plot against me,” she opened her speech.
“And because I don’t keep grudges Governor Ann Waiguru I have forgiven you. Even the goons sent to attack me, I have forgiven you.”

Further, the Kirinyaga MP stated that she had reached an agreement with the County Commissioner and Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO) to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.
How goons injured Njeri Maina
At the time, the President stood still and only had a smile to show to the crowd and glaring cameras.

Njeri’s bold remarks came months after she sustained head injuries in an altercation pitting her supporters and a group of youth said to aligned to Governor Ann Waiguru.
At the center of the altercation were reports of alleged vandalizing of county water project in the county.
Njeri arrived at Kerugoya Police Station in the company of her supporters to represent a Ward representative accu8used of being behind the vandalism.
However, a group of rowdy youth stormed the police station and started pelting stones leaving the MP with injuries. Njeri would later be admitted to Nairobi Hospital and had to shave her hair for treatment.
However, Governor Waiguru distanced herself from the chaos, issuing a demand letter to the MP.

Ruto makes promises to Kirinyaga residents
Several elected leaders from the county were present during the commissioning of the road project. Notably Purity Ngirici- former rival of Governor Waiguru was also present.
On his part, Ruto pledged to continue implementing development projects in the county as promised in the campaigns.
He listed the proposed county aggregation park in the county and affordable housing project slated to commence next year as among the projects the county would benefit from.
Additionally, Ruto promised to address the plight of dairy farmers in the county and ensure access to to-dressing fertilizer for the county’s farmers.
