Governor Anne Waiguru has threatened to take legal action against Kirinyaga Woman Representative Jane Maina Njeri, days after the Member of Parliament sustained injuries when two rival groups clashed.
Through her lawyers, Nyamodi & Company Advocates, Governor Waiguru claims the MP defamed her in a social media post, in relation to the chaos that rocked the county.
Waiguru’s legal team argues that the lawmaker in her Facebook post on August 24, 2023, insinuated that their client is a murderer; has conspired to murder the MP and has no regard for the law.
“Our instructions are that the said publication on your Facebook page is untrue, false, reckless and defamatory. The said publication is further malicious and is meant to tarnish the image of our client and disparage her outstanding reputation.”
Waiguru Demands
In addition, Waiguru who is also the Chairperson of the Council of Governors, wants the youthful legislator to withdraw the remarks, apologize and stop any further attacks on her image and character.

“We further demand that you admit liability for our Client’s claim. We shall thereafter engage you on the quantum of damages and costs consequential to your liability.
Take notice that if you do not comply with our demand within Seven (7) days from the date of this notice, we have firm and mandatory instructions to institute legal proceedings against yourself without any further reference to you at your risks as to costs and other consequences attendant thereto.”
Rival groups clash in Kirinyaga
Chaos rocked Kirinyaga County after youth from two rival camps clashed at Kerugoya police station, where Njeri Maina sustained injuries.
The MP had accompanied David Mathenge, a Member of County Assembly for Baragwi and her client, to the police station to record a statement regarding a vandalized county project.
At the same time, Njeri held a press briefing before unknown individuals showed up and disrupted the presser, attacking the MP and her supporters.
Njeri Maina is said to have sustained head injuries in the melee. She was rushed to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital before being referred to the Nairobi Hospital for specialized treatment.
On Friday, August 25, Njeri Maina in the company of her Lawyer and colleague, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, recorded a statement at the DCI headquarters in Kerugoya, Kirinyaga County.
Notably, the Woman Representative arrived at the DCI offices on a wheelchair as the injuries she sustained during the fracas reportedly affected her mobility.
