Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has broken silence after the fire tragedy that occurred on Friday morning at Endarasha Primary school in Nyeri County, killing at least 17 learners.
In a statement on September 6, Uhuru conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims.
“His Excellency President (Rtd) Uhuru Kenyatta has expressed his deepest condolences to the families, friends, and entire community of Hillside Endarasha Academy in Kieni, Nyeri County, following a devastating fire that claimed the lives of 16 innocent pupils and left several others injured,” Uhuru said.
“The loss of young lives, full of potential and hope for the future, is a pain that cannot be fully described. My heart goes out to the families who lost their children, and the school community deeply affected by this tragedy of unimaginable magnitude.”
“May God give you the strength, comfort, and peace you need as you cope with this loss,” said Mr. Kenyatta. The former President also wished for a swift recovery for all the injured children, praying for God’s healing and strength as they recover physically and emotionally from this traumatic event.”
Uhuru Joins Ruto and Other leaders in Mourning
Meanwhile President William Ruto also expressed regret over the incident and sent a condolence message to the families.
In addition, Ruto directed the launch of an investigation into the incident in order to find out the cause of the fire and hold those involved accountable.
“Our thoughts are with the families of the children who have lost their lives in the fire tragedy at the Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County. This is devastating news.
We pray for speedy recovery to the survivors. I instruct relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate this horrific incident. Those responsible will be held to account.
The Government under the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of the National Government is mobilising all the necessary resources to support the affected families,” the president said.

At the same time, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua called on schools to enforce safety and security measures as outlined by the Ministry of Education.
“We ask schools to enforce safety and security measures as outlined by the Ministry of Education and other agencies to avert such incidences.”
Similarly, Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga also expressed that, “My heartfelt condolences go out to the families, friends, and school fraternity who’ve lost loved ones in the devastating fire tragedy at Hillside Endarasha Academy. May God grant them all strength during these difficult moments, and a swift recovery for those injured.”
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi expressed optimism for justice and accountability for the victims, reiterating that investigations into the incident had been launched.
“As investigations proceed, we trust that every effort will be made to uncover the root cause of this heartbreaking incident, ensuring accountability and justice for all involved. In this time of sorrow, may the Lord help the bereaved families find strength and comfort during this difficult period. I wish a quick recovery for those injured and recuperating at the hospital.”
On the other hand, the speaker of the national assembly, Moses Wetangula stated that, “I join the nation in mourning the tragic and unfortunate death of pupils from Hillside Endarasha Academy, Kieni, Nyeri County who died in an unfortunate fire incident. Our prayers are with the families, the institution and the rest of the nation. As we seek God’s guidance in managing the loss we ask the authorities to step in and investigate the cause of this tragic incident. May the young, departed souls Rest in Peace.”

Council of Governors Statement
Meanwhile the Council of Governors expressed that they were deeply saddened about the tragic loss of the school children in Hillside Endarasha Academy, Nyeri County. This heartbreaking event has left a void that words can scarcely fill.
