Vice Chancellor (VC), Professor Benedict M. Mutua has announced the indefinite suspension of a group of students with immediate effect.
The Technical University of Kenya (TUK) vice chancellor in several letters sent out to the students said that the move followed protests held at the institution on Monday, February 3 that disrupted examinations that were to start.
Further, the administration has termed the student demonstrations as “deliberate actions that disrupted academic activities and caused destruction of property.”
The suspension, which was communicated through official letters dated 3rd February 2025, takes effect immediately.
“Such conduct constitutes a serious breach of University Regulations, undermining the integrity of academic activities and operations of the institution.”
“Consequently, you are hereby Suspended from the University with immediate effect and until further notice, pending further disciplinary proceedings,” read the letter in part.

According to the letter, the students were allegedly involved in organizing and actively participating in activities that led to the interruption of ongoing and scheduled examinations set to take place between Monday, February 3, and Saturday, February 15, 2025.
Moreover, the administration described the incident as a serious breach of academic integrity and a direct threat to the smooth operation of the institution.
As a result, affected students have been banned from accessing all university premises, including lecture halls, offices, and student hostels, until further notice.
The university also warned that continued defiance of the suspension order could result in additional disciplinary actions.
