Kirinyaga County Chief of Staff, Rita Oyier, has penned a deeply moving letter to the late Michael Oyier, expressing both admiration and gratitude.
The former KTN news anchor passed away on Saturday, April 20, at around 2:30 pm while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital, as confirmed by his family.
In her letter, Rita expressed that many people had inquired to know if she was a sister or wife to Michael Oyier since they shared a surname. “Good morning, Michael Oyier, I hope this little letter finds you at peace,” she began.
“You left me answering this all the time everywhere question that we have laughed over for 20 years! Are you Michael’s sister… Or are you, his wife? What is in a name though?”
Reflecting on Michael’s character, Rita noted that she was proud of Oyier’s achievements, noting how kind and honest he was.
“You did well, man, so proud of you, your faithfulness, your honesty. How you walked with a wise bare soul always reflecting and speaking your truth,” she stated.
“You remained kind in this harsh world and a gentleman where roughnecks’ rule. And by being so you allowed us to choose you and keep you.”

Rita went further describing Michael’s compassionate nature of holding those bleeding and with broken hearts.
“Oh, you truly earned your office as a heart man, you held many bleeding and broken hearts, Mike. Speaking to them in that delightful voice. Patiently, calmly, and truthfully always. Especially when truth was not the easy way out,” she remarked.

In the letter she also recalled their shared experiences and laughter through careers and family paths.
“There was nothing we could not laugh over from when I was a ‘blazing ball of fire’ permanently wearing jeans with my spiky baby locks, to when I was a heartbroken mother, to when I was an ambitious grown woman,” Rita reminisced.
“And from when you tried not to break hearts and sometimes failed miserably, to when you had to work through careers and being a present amazing dad.”

Rita further expressed that Michael Oyier was always there for her, walking with her in good and sad times.
“There was nowhere that was too far for you to come. And that you did despite anything you were going through. And for many others too,” she further wrote in the letter.
“You donated your brothers, and I donated my sisters and that was final. I am sure they all wondered how they came to be. So, we go on, Mike. With you. Not a moment without you. Loudly Loved forever by all of us who shared this name that you carried with pride and honor.”
