Former KTN news anchor Michael Oyier is dead, his family has confirmed.
According to his family, Oyier died on Saturday, April 20, at around 2.30 pm while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital.
Oyier made his mark in Kenya’s media realm during his stint at KTN News between 2002 and 2012.
Colleagues and friends of the late journalist took to their social media accounts shortly after news about his death broke, with a big number expressing their shock at the demise of the renowned journalist.
Veteran sports journalist Carol Radull was among those who commented about Oyier’s death stating, “Worst news ever. Former KTN and Kiss 100 News Presenter Michael Oyier dies while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital.”
On his part, veteran radio presenter Maina Kageni described Oyier as a legend while recalling the many lessons he learnt from his work as a journalist. Kageni also conveyed his condolences to the late journalist’s family and colleagues in the media.
“We have lost a legend. Thank you for everything Michael Oyier… one of the very best newscasters I have ever known…. a true example of commitment, discipline and encouragement!!!! Sincere condolences to the entire media fraternity and the family (Peter, Paul, Olga) and friends,” he wrote in reaction to news about Oyier’s death.

Academic journey
Oyier attended the United States International University (USIU) where he attained a bachelor’s degree in psychology and management between 1996 to 1998. He would later enroll for a Masters in the same university between 2002 and 2006.
Other academic qualifications to his name include a certificate in Owner Manager Program (Strathmore University) and a certificate in Executive Leadership Coaching from the Coach Development Institute.
During his stint at the Standard Group, Oyier worked as a news anchor, before switching careers from journalism to counseling. He also worked as an editorial consultant and a trainer and had a stint as a presenter at Radio Africa.

Oyier’s career after leaving KTN
Besides his mark as a journalist, Michael Oyier aslo wore the hats of a counsellor and a leadership coach through his Serenity Group Limited, a company focused on offering management, consulting and resource solutions services.
In his practice as a counsellor and an executive leadership coach, Michael Oyier has worked with renowned brands in Kenya including companies in the telecommunications sector, banking, and the National Treasury.
Details about his illness and exact cause of the death were however, not revealed by the time of this publication.
