Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has exposed flaws within the ruling Kenya Kwanza government while announcing that she is not afraid of facing expulsion from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

Wamuchomba was speaking at the Limuru III conference on May 17, 2024, where leaders from the Mt Kenya region announced the formation of a new coalition.

She expressed her frustrations with both the government and the UDA party while revealing flaws within the two which according to her have led to the neglect of the communities within the mountain region.

She lamented that people from the region had been neglected by the government at the full glance of senior leaders within the government who hail from the region.

The Githunguri MP called out Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and National Assembly majority leader Kimani Ichung’wa for allegedly giving up on their people.

According to her, people from the Mountain region have been fired from their positions since the Kenya Kwanza government came to power.

“I was among the people who voted in this government at our own will without being forced. During the campaigns we said that we wanted a Deputy President from the Kikuyu Community so that he can be fighting for our interests. Since the government rose to power, a total number of 272 people from our community who had been appointed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government in top state posts have been sacked without no one raising concern about it. I am referring to people who held roles as Parastatal Directors, Managers and Board Members,” lamented Wamuchomba.

The former Kiambu County women representative further dared anyone to sue her in Court for her remarks claiming that she has a list of the 272 people from the mountain region who have been sacked by the government.

While revealing about intimidation within the UDA party, Wamuchomba revealed that she had received threats in form of messages which warned her against attending the Limuru III conference.

“I have received a lot of intimidation. They were threatening me with messages that if I attended this meeting, they would expel me from the party. Tell them to expel me tomorrow,” she affirmed.

Further the MP criticized the proposed Finance Bill 2024 saying that she would lead a front to oppose it as it will affect business owners.

On the NADCO report, Wamuchomba claimed that President William Ruto, and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga are riding on the same boat with the former set to benefit from the report.

She claimed that the NADCO Report was all about benefitting Odinga and his political affiliates offices that according to her, will be witnessed in the next two months.

The MP claimed that her proposal of the one man one shilling one vote to be included in the NADCO Report was rejected by Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa who is a co-chair of the committee.

“Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka called me and told me that he was very sorry because he had seen a copy of my letter which was proposing the one man one vote one shilling in the NADCO Report but the majority leader who was a co-chair of the committee had rejected it. Kikuyus are being rejected by the same leaders who they elected to parliament. When the NADCO Report that we MPs are going to pass comes into effect, it will grant Raila Odinga a share of the government, Ministers from his faction and money,” added Wamuchomba.

Mt Kenya leaders form Coalition & Name Kingpin

The Githunguri MP further urged Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua to understand that former President Kenyatta is the custodian of the people of Mt Kenya.

During the Limuru III conference, a section of leaders drawn from the mountain region announced the formation of the HAKI coalition which they say will push for the region’s interests and unity under the guidance of Kenyatta insisting that he remains the region’s spokesperson and kingpin.

The leaders Led by NARC Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua and Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni accused DP Gachagua of failing to protect the interest of the region despite being in government.

In addition, the leaders also slammed the government over what they described as punitive taxation measures terming their support of the Kenya Kwanza Administration a mistake they must correct.

The conference brought together other political leaders, professionals and businessmen from different counties within the Mt Kenya region.
