The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in Nairobi and other listed areas this week.Ā In its weekly update shared on March 9, Kenya Met forecasts a general reduction in rainfall coverage and intensity across the country for the period of 10ā16 March 2026.
However, they warned that occasional rainfall is expected to continue in several areas in southern Kenya.
āRainfall Outlook Rainfall is expected to reduce in spatial coverage and intensity across several parts of the country. However, occasional rainfall is likely to continue over several areas in the southern parts of the country,ā the weatherman forecasted.
Isolated heavy rainfall events are still likely to occur in some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the South eastern Lowlands and the South Coast.
Kenya Met Lists Areas Set to Experience Heavy Downpours This Week
Morning cloudiness with light rain is expected, giving way to sunny intervals, while afternoon showers may occur in a few places and occasionally spread to several areas, with nights remaining partly cloudy and possible showers in isolated locations, including:
The Highlands East of the Rift Valley (NyandaruaLaikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murangāa, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi Counties).
According to Kenya Met, morning rains are likely in a few places, followed by afternoon showers and thunderstorms in a few to several places, with night showers likely in a few places.

This includes the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley (Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West-Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori and Narok Counties.
In North-western Kenya, including Turkana and Samburu Counties, sunny intervals are expected during the day, partly cloudy conditions at night, with occasional rainfall over a few places.
North ā Eastern and South- Eastern Lowlands
In North-eastern Kenya, covering Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo Counties, mornings and afternoons are expected to have sunny intervals, with occasional rainfall over a few places. Nights are likely to be partly cloudy, with isolated showers possible.

In the South-eastern Lowlands, including Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita-Taveta Counties, and the inland parts of Tana-River County, morning rains are expected over a few places, while afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms may occur in isolated locations.
Along the Coast, covering Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale Counties, and the Tana Delta, showers are likely in the morning, afternoon, and night, affecting a few places.
Daytime temperatures above 30°C are expected in several areas, including the Coast, South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
Night-time temperatures below 10°C are likely in parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and areas around Mt. Kilimanjaro.
