President William Ruto and former US President Barack Obama held talk on Thursday, May 23 at Blair House in Washington D.C. and discussed a range of issues including African current concerns and future prospects.
President Ruto stated after the meeting that the talks were beneficial, and that they discussed a wide range of topics, including how countries are administered, the changing weather, and ensuring people’s safety in Africa.
“We reviewed opportunities available to Africa’s young and dynamic demographic in tech, innovation, higher and technical education,” said President Ruto.
Notably, the dialogue between the two leaders revolved on Africa’s growth and drive to innovation for the youths in order to curb the issues of unemployment.
They also focused on the need to maximize the potential of Africa’s youth by providing them with more opportunities to learn new things in technology, generate new ideas, and education.

Both leaders also exchanged ideas on how Kenya and Africa can leverage U.S. institutions and technological capacity to advance its interests.
Ruto and Obama met on the last leg of Kenyan leader’s state visit to the United States, where he held talks with President Joe Biden, the business community and Congress.
Obama who served as the 44th US President has strong ties with Kenya. His father Hussein Obama was a Kenyan. He previously visited Kenya while as Senator and as President.
Kenya and US Ink a Partnership Agreement
What’s more, President Ruto signed several deals including key initiatives to enhance educational collaboration between US and Kenyan institutions.
Kennedy-Mboya Partnerships, a $3.3 million (Ksh 436,425,000) program that will provide scholarships to sixty Kenyan undergraduate students to study in the United States for a semester, with a specific focus on STEM fields.

Likewise, Biden’s administration announced partnership 2024, a $500,000 initiative to support the growth and development of Kenyan students, scientists, researchers, and engineers.
Ruto Haiti Mission
Similarly, President Ruto explained why his government is set to deploy police officers to Haiti for peacekeeping.
“Kenya believes the responsibility of peace and security anywhere in the whole world, including Haiti, is the responsibility of all nations,” reads part of Ruto’s statement.
He added, “We still deployed a thousand troops to DRC Congo because that is our neighborhood. We have a thousand troops in Somalia and Haiti should not be an exception.”
