Faith Syengo, a Kenyan entrepreneur and community leader, is making an impact in the United States through financial education, leadership development, and advocacy for immigrant and refugee communities.
Syengo serves as a Commissioner on Immigrant and Refugee Affairs in Tacoma, Washington, a role she was appointed to in May this year.
The position places her at the center of policy discussions affecting migrant communities.
In her role as a commissioner in Tacoma, Faith Syengo advocates for inclusion, equity, and access to opportunities for immigrant and refugee communities.
She contributes to discussions on how local government can better respond to the needs of diverse populations.
In an interview with The Kenya Times, Syengo, who moved to the United States in 2018, said her leadership philosophy is grounded in service rather than position or title.
“Whether through financial education, youth mentorship, community advocacy, or nonprofit leadership, my mission remains the same: to help people discover their potential, build sustainable futures, and become leaders within their own communities,” she said.
Her long-term vision is to see immigrant and refugee families move beyond survival and into stability, economic independence, and generational wealth creation.
Syengo’s journey began in the healthcare sector, where she worked as a radiology technologist.
Faith Syengo holds a degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management from Zetech University and a second degree in Radiologic Technology from Pima Medical Institute in Arizona, United States.
She is currently retired from formal employment and is now fully focused on entrepreneurship and community service, including her work in financial education and immigrant empowerment initiatives.

Hope Leadership Trust: Empowering Immigrant and Refugee Lives
While building her professional career, Syengo also became increasingly involved in community work focused on the needs of immigrant families adjusting to life in the United States.
She is the founder of Hope Leadership Trust, a nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting African immigrant and refugee families in Washington State and across Africa.
The organization operates through community-anchored hubs designed to build sustainable pipelines for stability, self-sufficiency, and generational impact.
Hope Leadership Trust delivers integrated programmes focused on leadership and mentorship to develop the next generation of African leaders. It also provides healing and wellness support through culturally responsive and trauma-informed care.
The organization promotes economic mobility through workforce readiness and financial independence, while its community hubs are designed to support families holistically.
Syengo says the approach is rooted in long-term transformation rather than short-term relief.
“True community transformation happens when people are empowered not only socially and emotionally, but also financially,” she said.
She says the establishment of Hope Leadership Trust was driven by her belief that every individual deserves access to hope, healing, leadership opportunities, and economic empowerment, regardless of background or circumstances.
A Model Focused on Healing, Growth and Economic Empowerment
Through the organization, she says, thousands of individuals and families have benefited from leadership development programmes, youth mentorship, workforce readiness training, financial literacy education, mental health and wellness support, and healing-centered community initiatives.
The programmes particularly focus on immigrant and refugee youth, women, single mothers, widows, and families facing barriers to opportunity.
Syengo adds that one of the organization’s key approaches is its healing-centered model, which recognizes that many immigrant and refugee families carry experiences of displacement, trauma, poverty, and social isolation.
Rather than focusing solely on challenges, she says the organization prioritizes building resilience, restoring hope, strengthening leadership capacity, and creating pathways for long-term success.
“My vision is to see immigrant and refugee families not merely survive in their new homes, but thrive, lead, build wealth, and leave lasting legacies for future generations,” she said. “When we invest in people, we invest in stronger families, stronger communities, and a brighter future for all.”

She is also the co-founder of F&G Health & Wealth Group, a financial education organization serving individuals and families across all 50 states in the United States.
The group focuses on retirement planning, income protection, estate planning, and strategies for long-term financial stability.
Through the organization, Syengo works with families to improve their understanding of financial systems, with a focus on immigrant and refugee communities that often struggle to access financial information and services.
