Ministry of Sports, Youth Affairs and the Arts Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba on Sunday, September 24 visited the GRAMMY‘s headquarters in Los Angeles.
The visit was aimed at significantly progressing the partnership between Kenya and the Recording Academy, which is responsible for the prestigious Grammy’s Awards.
Moreover, the visit is part of Namwamba’s initiatives to improve the Kenyan creative industry after his appointment by President William Ruto to the Generation Unlimited’s (GenU) Global leadership Council.
The former member of parliament has so far spearheaded a series of transformative partnerships between Kenya and various US entities, marking a significant milestone for the Kenyan creative industry.

Similarly, the CS in the company of President Ruto, solidified Kenya’s collaboration with the NBA and Invention Studios, focusing on basketball development and the film industry.
The Grammy’s
Nonetheless, this move marked the inception of a groundbreaking initiative that will soon extend to the world-renowned Grammy Awards.
CS Namwamba also had a meeting with the Academy’s President, Mr. Panos Panay, a notable figure in the music industry.
Panos Panay assumed the presidency of the Academy, responsible for the Grammy Awards, in 2022 with a rich background in technology and music.
He is known to be a cousin of a former Microsoft Chief Product Officer, Panos Panay, whom they share a common name.

Furthermore, the Grammy Awards, known for its prestige and cultural significance, has celebrated the finest talents in music for decades.

President Ruto affirmed that the transformative power of these partnerships is set to change the sports and creative industries.
“The signing of an agreement with the National Basketball Association (NBA) will facilitate the development of basketball infrastructure in Kenya, with the capacity to host top-level competitions,” stated Ruto.
