25 Kenyans flew to Spain for a week-long football program. The group, which departed on Saturday evening, September 6, 2025, consists of 13 men and 12 women drawn from various teams across the country.

The players will train with professionals and sharpen their skills at the world-class Base Aragonesa de Fútbol, S.D. Huesca’s modern sports facility.

Their stay will include a mix of activities such as testing their skills against Huesca’s Youth Academy, learning from professional players through masterclasses, and training in top-notch facilities.

They will also attend a  Segunda Division match between SD Huesca and Málaga CF, along with cultural experiences such as sightseeing and city tours.

The trip is sponsored by Safaricom under the banner “Safaricom Chapa Dimba All-Stars Team.”

They will be accompanied by coaches Chrispine Odindo of Plateau Queens and Evans Oketch of Obunga FC, as well as representatives from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

During the Chapa Dimba All-Stars Farewell Dinner held on Friday, September 5, several players shared testimonies about their journeys.

They described how the tournament had opened doors to professional opportunities, including national and international club call-ups.

Plays Narrate Their Journey with Chapa Dimba

Neddy Kithinji, who currently plays as a defender for 3K FC, first participated in the Chapa Dimba Eastern Region finals in 2023.

He joined Chapa Dimba through a local team called Predators in Embu, which reached the finals against Chuka University.

Although his team lost on penalties, he was crowned MVP, earning him a place in the All-Stars squad.

“Chapa Dimba has helped several clubs notice my talent and has brought me to where I am today,” said Kithinji.

Manda Sunira Were of Highland Royals, Moi Girls Eldoret, shared that she was inspired by her coach’s assurance that winners would earn a trip to Spain.

“I joined the Chapa Dimba tournament in 2023 following my coach’s motivation. Even though we lost at the County finals, I was ranked MVP of the tournament,” she said.

Safaricom’s Manager, Experiences, David Kibera, explained that the 32 players were selected from the MVPs of the Chapa Dimba tournament’s eight regions, with two boys and two girls picked per region.

“The tournament has helped many players secure contracts with big clubs and even spots in the national team. For example, Austin Odongo, who was part of the Harambee Stars CHAN 2024 team, came through Chapa Dimba,” Kibera noted.

About Safaricom Chapa Dimba

Safaricom Chapa Dimba is a national grassroots football tournament organized with the Football Kenya Federation.

Launched in 2017, it gives young people aged 16–20 a platform to showcase, nurture, and earn from their talent.

The program also trains over 250 coaches and provides scouts and clubs with access to a large pool of rising talent.

The tournament has produced many notable players, including Benson Omala (Gor Mahia), David Majak (Tusker FC), Jentrix Shikangwa (Beijing Beikong), Jane Njeri, Cynthia Livondo, and Judith Osimbo, among others. From each regional final, two boys and two girls are scouted to form the All-Star team, which gets the opportunity to travel to Spain for a training camp.
