Prof Bitange Ndemo is among the five candidates shortlisted by the Public Service Commission (PSC) for the position of Vice-Chancellor at the University of Nairobi (UoN).
According to PSC, interviews for the job are scheduled for Friday, March 21, 2025, at the Public Service Commission offices along Harambee Avenue in Nairobi.
PSC had advertised the post on January 21, 2025, which attracted six applicants by the closing date of February 11, 2025.
Bitange Ndemo Among Shortlisted Candidates
Other candidates shortlisted for the position include Francis Jackim Mulaa, Ayub Njoroge Gitau, James Njiru, and Duke Orata.
The shortlisted candidates are from different ethnic counties including Tharaka Nithi, Homa Bay, Kisii, Kiambu, and Busia.
Additionally, the commission advised the candidates to be at the venue at least 20 minutes before the starting time.
Requirements for Candidates
Further, the candidates will be required to produce various documents during the interview.
They must have an original National Identity Card (ID), Academic and Professional certificates and transcripts, and any other supporting documents and testimonials.
Additionally, they must carry a Letter of recognition of qualifications from the Commission for University Education (CUE) for any degree obtained from foreign universities.

Call for Public Participation
“Members of the public are invited to avail any credible information of interest relating to any of the shortlisted candidates through sworn affidavits,” the statement read.
The affidavits must be addressed to the secretary/CEO of Public Service Commission 4th floor Commission House, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi, or online through [email protected] to be received on or before 19th March 2025.

About Bitange Ndemo
He was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta as Kenya’s ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium.
Besides administrative position, Dr Ndemo has served as a professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Nairobi School of Business.
From 2013 to 2018, he worked as an associate professor and a senior lecturer at the University of Nairobi.
He also served as the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Communications in the Government of Kenya 2005 under former president Mwai Kibaki.
In the 1990s, he worked in the USA as a Senior Financial Analyst at Medtronic Company before returning to Kenya in 1993.
He has worked as an academic and newspaper columnist with the Daily Nation and Business Daily.
Former UoN Vice Chancellor Sent Home
The UoN Council sent Stephen Kiama, the former vice chancellor, on compulsory leave in April 2024.
The University of Nairobi was embroiled in leadership wrangles between former Vice Chancellor Kiama and the University’s Council chair Amukowa Anangwe.
Amukowa Anangwe reiterated that Professor Njoroge Gitau would hold the VC office in the interim, and that Kiama’s defiance would be treated as insubordination.
However, Kiama released a statement in April 2024 to disregard the earlier communication, stressing his commitment to leading the university.
Before his appointment, Stephen Kiama was serving as the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Human Resource and Administration and the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor in-charge of Finance, Planning and Development.
